Charleston Ghost Tour Policies & Legal Information

Welcome to the Rules of the Realm

Ghosts, cobblestones, and centuries-old secrets await—but first, the ground rules! Here’s everything you need to know to enjoy your haunted adventure safely and smoothly.

Quick & Spooky Policy Snapshot

Rain or shine, cobblestones or moonlight—we’re ready to lead you on a haunted adventure! Tickets are fully paid at booking, and while we love our spooky stops, we aren’t officially tied to the locations we visit—sometimes gates lock, events pop up, or ghosts hide. Most tours are outdoors, optional spirits are on you, and some areas have strict rules we must follow. Ghost sightings aren’t guaranteed, but chills, thrills, and laughter are. Walk safely, be respectful, and get ready for a ghoulishly good time!

Booking & Payments

Pick your date and time wisely! If you’re unsure, reach out to us first—we love helping you plan the perfect ghostly outing. Full payment locks in your spot, so you’re officially on the haunted map.

We are happy to help you select the best tour and timing for your group.

Tickets are priced per person and include the story, not spirits (that’s optional). Taxes and fees may apply.

Plans change—life happens, even in the afterlife! Policies depend on your tour type and are clearly shown at checkout. Private tours may have different rules, and no-shows aren’t eligible for refunds.

Weather Policy

Rain, shine, or misty fog—we’re ready to haunt! Only severe weather cancels, and you’ll be the first to know.

Location Affiliation

We love the buildings and graveyards we visit, but we don’t own them. Sometimes gates lock, hours shift, or private events appear like ghosts from nowhere. Don’t fret—we always have a backup plan for spooky stops.

Interior Access & Historic Site

Mostly outdoors! Bars, pubs, and restaurants may welcome us inside, but haunted houses, museums, and abandoned sites stay off-limits unless special arrangements are made (extra fees may apply). No outside food or drinks are allowed inside these establishments.

Site-Specific Rules

Circular Church Graveyard Policy

The gate closes at 6 PM—no peeking after dark! I would be happy to take you in before then. If private events are happening, we ghost around outside only.

There is one Charleston tour company that holds exclusive evening access rights. History, Haunts, & Hahas! and other companies do not possess such access and must strictly adhere to posted rules. If it's any consolation, that specific tour company is leading a public tour that is sober where strangers and their children join your tour - ew!

Rainbow Row, Washington Square, and some charming cobblestone streets are off-limits after certain hours. Drinking alcohol on the street—no matter the container—is never allowed. Timing matters, so we plan routes carefully.

Saint Philip’s Church Graveyard

Stories from outside the iron fence only. Active construction keeps us on the safe side.

Powder Magazine, Old Exchange, Provost Dungeon: entry possible with advance notice; separate fees apply.

“The Tavern” is a historic liquor store dating to 1686 and features a hatch door leading to historic tunnels.

The store is open daily until 7:00 PM and closed on Sundays. Occasionally, the cashier may allow guests to view the hatch door from above. Peek through the hatch, but never go inside. Ghostly mysteries await, but safety comes first!

Guests, Safety & Fun

Age & Alcohol

Some tours are kid-friendly; some are 21+ only. Drinks are optional and never included. Bring ID if you plan to sip a ghostly spirit. No drinking is allowed on public streets, sidewalks, or outside containers.

Some bars prohibit entry if not 23+ with I.D.

About a mile of walking on uneven sidewalks, cobblestones, and historic streets. Need special accommodations? Let us know! Third-party fees are on guests.

Safety & Conduct

Respect the living and the dearly departed! Disruptive behavior may get you escorted away. Guests assume responsibility for their own safety.

Ghost sightings aren’t guaranteed—but chills, thrills, and stories that raise your hair are!
