A Promise Before We Ever Meet…How are My Tours Different?
"How are your tours different?"
It's one of the questions I'm asked most often.
Sometimes people are asking if my tours are scarier.
Sometimes they're asking if I use ghost hunting equipment.
Sometimes they're wondering if I tell different stories than everyone else.
The truth is...
The biggest difference isn't a story.
It isn't a haunted location.
It isn't an EMF meter.
It's a promise.
Before we ever meet, before we shake hands, before we step onto Charleston's cobblestones, I'd like to tell you exactly what that promise is.
I Promise to Respect the Truth
Charleston doesn't need embellished history.
It doesn't need fabricated ghost stories.
It doesn't need exaggerated legends or distorted timelines to become fascinating.
Its history is already extraordinary.
If something is documented, I'll tell you.
If something is local folklore, I'll tell you.
If something is a reported haunting, I'll tell you.
If historians disagree, I'll tell you.
If the evidence is incomplete, I'll tell you that too.
Sometimes the most honest answer is,
"We don't know."
I don't see that as disappointing.
I see it as an invitation to keep asking questions. And then we can learn together. 🌈
I Promise That Curiosity Comes Before Conclusions
People often ask whether I believe in ghosts.
The funny thing is...
I don't think that's the first question.
The first question is,
"What happened here?"
That's where every investigation begins.
A reported haunting isn't the conclusion.
It's the breadcrumb. For haunted history tours, it’s where I start.

Who was this person?
Why has this story survived?
What history connects to these reports?
Could there be a natural explanation?
Could there be something we haven't considered yet?
History gives context to reported paranormal experiences.
Reported paranormal experiences give history a deeply human voice.
The haunting points us toward the history.
The history helps us understand the haunting.
Whether you ultimately believe the explanation is historical, psychological, environmental, paranormal, or something else entirely...
The journey is worth taking.
I Promise to Respect the Human Behind the Haunting
This may be the promise that matters most to me.
Every ghost story begins with a human story.
Someone lived here.
Someone loved here.
Someone laughed here.
Someone grieved here.
Someone worked here.
Someone struggled here.
Someone celebrated here.
Long before they became part of folklore or a reported haunting...
They were simply a person.
I never want to lose sight of that.
To me, history isn't scenery.
It isn't entertainment.
It's people.
The reported haunting gives us a reason to ask about them.
History gives us the privilege of getting to know them.
I Promise to Investigate Honestly
Yes...
I bring investigative equipment.
EMF meters.
Temperature readings.
Spirit box sessions.
Other tools depending on the experience.
But here's something important.
Those tools don't exist to prove ghosts.
They exist to encourage observation.
Conversation.
Critical thinking.
Sometimes we capture something unusual.
Sometimes we don't.
If we notice something unexpected, we'll spend just as much time asking,
"Could there be another explanation?"
as we do asking,
"Could this be paranormal?"
That's Ghost Forensics.
Not proving.
Not disproving.
Investigating.
I Promise Never to Guarantee Ghosts
No one can honestly guarantee paranormal activity.
If someone could...
It wouldn't be paranormal anymore.
It would be repeatable science.
I can't promise your EMF meter will light up.
I can't promise you'll hear a voice.
I can't promise an apparition.
I can't promise you'll leave believing in ghosts.
What I can promise is honesty.
Research.
Thoughtful discussion.
Historical context.
And an experience where your own conclusions are welcome.
I Promise to Keep Learning
One of the greatest gifts this profession has given me has been my guests.
People often thank me for teaching them something new.
The truth is...
I've learned just as much from them.
Some of my favorite research rabbit holes began because someone asked one simple question.
"Why?"
One guest notices something I'd overlooked.
Another shares a family connection.
Another points me toward an old newspaper.
Another asks a question that sends me into months of research.
Those conversations don't end when the tour ends.
They continue.
My guests have made me a better researcher.
A better storyteller.
A better educator.
A better listener.
Most importantly...
They've inspired me to remain a lifelong learner.
For that, I'll always be grateful.
I'm equally grateful to every opportunity I've had throughout my career.
Every chapter taught me something.
Every experience shaped the guide I've become.
A Tour for Curious People
More than anything else...
I think that's what I've been building all along.
Not simply ghost tours.
Not simply history tours.
Not simply pub crawls.
Not simply paranormal investigations.
I've been building experiences for curious people.
For people who enjoy asking why.
For people who appreciate evidence but aren't afraid to explore possibilities.
For people who don't think they have to choose between history and mystery.
For people who believe skepticism and wonder can comfortably walk side by side.
For people who don't feel they have to check their intellect at the door to enjoy a ghost tour.
I don't think you should have to suspend critical thinking to enjoy a great story.
I think curiosity makes the story even better.
You're never expected to believe something simply because I say it.
You're invited to investigate it with me.
Ask questions.
Challenge assumptions.
Evaluate evidence.
Laugh.
Wonder.
Stay curious.
No Two Experiences Are Exactly Alike
Curiosity looks different for everyone.
That's why I don't believe every guest should have the exact same experience.
Some people want haunted history.
Some want history-forward experiences where reported hauntings become the lens through which we explore Charleston's past.
Some prefer history-only experiences with no ghost stories at all.
Some enjoy paranormal investigations.
Some love historic pub crawls.
Some want to explore a single era in extraordinary depth.
Some want a completely customized private experience built around their own interests, family history, research questions, or favorite rabbit holes.
No two groups are alike.
So why should every experience be?
Guests Have Said It Better Than I Could
One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been seeing guests describe the very philosophy I've tried to build.
One guest wrote:
"She explained the research and 'proof' behind some of the stories, and specified when other stories were mostly 'lore' based but fun to hear nonetheless."
Another shared:
"She made sure to include the facts along with acknowledging possible stories that may be incorrect."
Another described the experience as:
"The real history behind the tall tales."
Another noticed something I hope never changes:
"She explained the idea of ghosts and spirits through both science and suspicion."
And perhaps my favorite:
"I've never learned so much and laughed so hard during a haunted tour."
Those reviews mean the world to me because they tell me something important.
The promises I'm making here aren't just aspirations.
They're experiences guests have already recognized.
My Promise to Every Guest
Whether you join me for a haunted history walk...
A history-forward experience...
A history-only tour...
A haunted pub crawl...
A history pub crawl...
A paranormal investigation...
An era-specific deep dive...
A small-group experience...
Or a completely customized private adventure...
My promise remains the same.
You can count on integrity.
You can count on accountability.
You can count on curiosity.
You can count on honest research.
You can count on transparency when the evidence is uncertain.
You can count on respect—for documented history, for folklore, for reported paranormal experiences, for the people whose lives shaped Charleston, and for every guest who chooses to spend part of their day with me.
Because I'm not really in the tourism business.
I'm in the people business.
If you leave believing exactly what I believe...
I've probably missed the point.
If you leave asking better questions than when you arrived...
Then we've shared exactly the kind of evening I hoped we would.
Because the best experiences don't tell people what to think.
They invite people to think.
And I'd be honored to stay curious with you. ❤️
